Mustang Fun Day

We had six trainers and five horses at Signature Arabians on Sat for a great day. Lots of fun was had by all and the weather could not have been better. Below are a few group shots and also a couple of really great action shots that Cherish caught. I am looking forward to leaving for Madison in just three more days.

This Saturday, 2PM, Demo, all trainers/guests invited

This Saturday, April 11th at 2PM we will be hosting a Mustang Demo Day. All trainers, along with their mustangs for the competition are invited to participate along with any guests they would like to invite.

We will set up some obstacles in the indoor, plus also give everyone an opportunity to play their freestyle music and practice their routine. Signature Arabians has graciously agreed to host this event. They have a permanent sound system in the indoor to play CDs.

If you would like to attend this event please send me an email so I have an idea on how many people/trailers to expect.

Chain of Lakes trails

Last weekend we went to the Chain of Lakes to trail ride Sat AM. It was cool in the AM so we kept moving and had a really good ride. The horses worked hard trotting up and down the hills and got pretty warm. I also spent some time practicing trailer loading and going over obstacles on the trail. Sat night we got a snow storm, so that kept us home on Sunday.

This week I am working to make sure I have done everything I can think of for the horse fair. We leave for Madison in two weeks. I still need to finalize my freestyle music and routine.

This weekend I am planning on a Sat AM trail ride and possibly going to another barn. Sunday is more outside riding and Monday is "obstacle course" night. I am going to invite over any other trainers in the competition on Monday night with their horses.

This picture below is from two weeks ago in Caledonia, WI.

The pictures below are all from the Chain of Lakes in IL.

Enjoying the warm weather

Stiletto is doing great. I have been getting her to more places and out on the trails. I am also starting to put together my 4 final freestyle for the horse fair. Last week we went to the Racine Pony Club. We has a great time and spent a few hours talking to the kids and parents. They all had lots of great questions.

Upcoming road trips

This past week has been pretty normal. Stiletto is doing great and progressing in her training very well. This weekend (2/22/09) is an Open Show at West 20 in East Troy which I may haul her to for the experience. It will depend on the weather and my schedule.

On Thursday, March 12, 2009, Lalo and I are taking the mustangs to the Racine Pony Club for a short demo after their monthly meeting. If you would like to schedule a demo at your barn we would be happy to haul them over for an evening or a few hours on the weekend. Contact me through here to get more details.

An Illinois Weekend

This weekend we spent lots of time in IL. Saturday Jill and I took Stiletto and her young mare, M, to the roping event that Lalo regularly goes to. We stayed about half of the day to give the horses experience in the busy environment. They were both great. Sunday we took the same horses and met Lalo and his mare at the Sterling Lake Trail area in IL. These pictures are from the roping competition on Saturday and a Trail Ride on Sunday.

Good Progress

Stiletto is doing great. I took her to friends (Jim and Lori) place a few miles away. Lalo was pulling his trailer not far from Signature Arabians, so I talked him into picking us up and giving us a ride a few miles down the road. It was a educational day and ended up well. Thanks to Jim and Lori for putting up with us dropping in on them and providing all of their assistance ;)

Sunday I took advange of the warmer weather and took Stiletto on her first trail ride. I rode around the farm and into the fields behind the farm. The snow was up to her belly in some places. She was great as expected. I am hoping this coming weekend we will have more warm weather and I can take her on more trail rides in different places.

Monday was more indoor work, Tuesday she gets the day off while I spend some time on the slopes :) I will get some photos this weekend to post.

End of Week Two

Stiletto is doing great. I have been working on lots of basics and she responds well to everything I ask her to do. Jill got her new filly this past week and on Sunday we ponied her for the first time from Stiletto. They both did great. We will probably do more ponying over the next few weeks. They are also turned out together, so they are buddies.

End of Week One

Stiletto is doing great and is accepting new things everyday. Since it was too cold to spend time in the indoor most of last week, I used the time to work on anything that I could do in the warm barn. She was great with everything I did with her. I clipped her one night and she also got her first farrier visit. She was overdue for a trim when I got her last week so it was a definite necessity.

I have not gotten any pictures since the first weekend. With the cold weather, the moisture from the footing is gone and the dust makes photography difficult.

As of last night, she now has four rides on her and is doing very well. I should have some pictures of her under saddle by next week.

Lalo took his mare home on Sunday where he can spend more time working with her and less time traveling back and forth to the barn. Jesus called and said both of his mares are doing well. Hopefully he can come down with them for a weekend or we can all meet someplace in-between.

Look for pictures soon, Wednesday will be warmer and the dust will be down.

Name Chage

I changed the mustangs name today. Trax is a good name, but just wasn't fitting this mare. Her name is now Stiletto. I will get pictures this weekend to post. She is doing great and loves all the attention she can get.

Snow Traxing

Stiletto went out to play in the snow today. She took big bites out of the snow piles and tried to climb them. She is very curious and likes to investigate everything and everyone she comes into contact with. Below is her imitation of Sign's trademark.

Stiletto in front.

Stiletto is on the left.

Thanks to Jesus, Martin and Lalo for making the trip to Ewing.

The mustangs arrived at Signature Arabians Friday night approximately 6PM. Lalo is keeping his at Signature Arabians until he gets her started. He has a 4 yr old Bay mare and I have a 3 yr old Brown mare. Jesus got two mares one bay and one sorrel.

Sat AM we started the 100 day training. I named my mare, Stiletto. Stiletto is a really nice mare, with lots of body and very sensible.

Getting ready for the second challenge

This Friday is the pick up date for the 2009 mustang. Arrival will be by 5PM Friday at Signature Arabians. I will get some pictures and post them by next week. I am hoping for a less muddy one this time around.
